During the week of May 23, 2022, through May 29, 2022, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 444 DUI arrests compared with 511 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13.11 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 318 major accidents so far this year compared with 325 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.15 percent.
To date, there were 15 fatal crashes, resulting in 17 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with 11 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents is an increase of 36.36 percent for fatal crashes and 54.55 percent for fatalities.
