During the week of January 25, 2021, through January 31, 2021, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 25 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 110 DUI arrests compared with 97 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 13.4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 57 major accidents so far this year compared with 85 during the same period last year, a decrease of 32.9 percent.
To date, there were 3 fatal crashes, resulting in 3 fatalities, compared with 3 fatal crashes, resulting in 3 fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
