During the week of March 1, 2021, through March 7, 2021, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 27 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 228 DUI arrests compared with 218 during the same period last year, an increase of 4.6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 138 major accidents so far this year compared with 191 during the same period last year, a decrease of 27.7 percent.
To date, there were 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities, compared with 6 fatal crashes, resulting in 6 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 16.7 percent for fatal crashes, and 16.7 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
