During the week of February 28, 2022, through March 6, 2022, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 29 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 213 DUI arrests compared with 219 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 128 major accidents so far this year compared with 135 during the same period last year, a decrease of 5.2 percent.
To date, there were 6 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents is an increase of 20 percent for fatal crashes, and 60 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
