3 Vehicle Traffic Collision Shuts Down Highway 11

Yesterday was a dangerous day on the roads for the Big Island with several accidents spread across the island hindering traffic in an already crippled journey for some. One accident involved a Propane Truck and two other vehicles shutting down a highway for a length of time.

At around 11:04 am there was a report on Highway 11 around the 16-mile marker near Oshiro Road of a traffic collision. Keaʻau Fire Department arrived on the scene at 11:17 am to find a Moter Vehicle Collision involving an empty 3000-gallon propane truck, full-size pickup truck, and box truck. Hawaii Police Department performed an initial assessment of the accident and 5 possible patients and closed both lanes of Highway 11.

Hawaii Fire Department responders from Company 5 triaged patients and requested additional assistance. And 3 Hawaii Fire Department Medics transported 4 patients by ambulance.

Hazmat 4 assessed the Propane truck and confirmed no product leaking from the propane truck. Company 5 assisted the Department of Public Works and State Highways with removing debris from the roadway so both lanes could be reopened.
