During the week of February 14, 2022, through February 20, 2022, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 37 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Four of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 166 DUI arrests compared with 178 during the same period last year, a decrease of 6.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 100 major accidents so far this year compared with 100 during the same period last year.
To date, there were 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 7 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths), compared with 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents is an increase of 40 percent for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
