Hawaiʻi Island police detectives have charged 31-year-old Jordan Kekolonahekuahiwielawemaikealohaa J Botelho, of Papaikou, with additional offenses while in police custody for an active criminal investigation.
Botelho was captured on surveillance video prior to his arrest on September 9, 2024, in possession of a rifle. Botelho is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition and is a respondent in an active order for protection, also prohibiting him from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Acting on a tip from the public, on Tuesday afternoon, September 10, 2024, detectives from the Juvenile Aid Section and Crime Reduction Unit recovered a loaded Winchester Repeating Arms .22 caliber lever action rifle and ammunition in the area of the surveillance video that capture Botelho a few days prior.
On Wednesday morning, September 11, 2024, after conferring with the County Prosecutor’s Office, Botelho was charged with:
- Possession of a firearm prohibited
- Possession of a firearm prohibited with an active order for protection
- Possession of ammunition prohibited
- Possession of ammunition prohibited with an active order for protection
- Place to keep a loaded firearm
- Place to keep ammunition
Botelho’s bail was set at $159,000 and his initial court appearance is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, September 12, 2024, in Hilo District Court.
