Hawaiʻi Island – The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Public Works has announced that a project to repair the Kaiwilahilahi and Honoliʻi Stream bridges is being extended to February 2026. The project, conducted by Isemoto Contracting, was initially expected to be completed in August 2025.
The Honoliʻi Stream Bridge is located on Kāhoa Street in Paukaʻa, while the Kaiwilahilahi Bridge is on Old Māmalahoa Highway in Pāpaʻaloa. During the initial repairs, additional damage was discovered, which required an expanded scope of work and an extension of the project schedule.
Motorists should be aware of possible road closures, detours, and delays within the construction areas. Only local traffic will be allowed. Temporary traffic controls and flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic.
The bridge repair and preservation work includes grading, deck drain replacement, concrete spall and crack repairs, waterproofing, and asphalt paving. The County of Hawaiʻi has thanked the communities in advance for their patience and understanding during this extended period of work.
