HILO, HI – The County of Hawai’i has announced the completion of a restoration project at Clarence Lum Won Park, focusing on the park’s crucial parking area. The project addresses previous issues and aims to significantly improve accessibility for visitors to the popular recreational space.
County officials recognized the urgent need for improvements and prioritized the restoration project to ensure convenient access for everyone who wishes to enjoy the park’s amenities. In partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Public Works restored a peripheral parking area that can now safely accommodate approximately 80 vehicles. The parking area will be available for the public starting Saturday.
“For years, residents have been asking for parking solutions at Clarence Lum Won Park, and we are pleased to be able to address these concerns,” said Mayor Kimo Alameda. “This project is a good example of what can happen when we work across departments to meet the needs of our communities.”
The 5-acre park, also known as “Kona Scenic,” includes sports fields, a comfort station, and an outdoor basketball court.
The park is located at 81-877 Nape St.
The County is confident that the restored parking area will alleviate previous congestion and provide a more positive experience for park visitors. They encourage the community to take advantage of the improved facilities and continue to enjoy all that Clarence Lum Won Park has to offer.
The County of Hawai’i thanks the community for its patience and understanding during the construction period and looks forward to seeing Clarence Lum Won Park continue to serve as a valuable resource for generations to come.
