County Developing CDBG-MIT Action Plan

by Thunda

The County of Hawai‘i is seeking public input on the development of an Action Plan addressing the use of $6.862 million in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant-Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funds.

The grant will be used to implement projects identified in the County’s 2020 Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan. A 45-day public comment period will begin October 25 with the release of a draft Action Plan.

Prior to that, a pre-release public meeting will be held virtually via Zoom from 5-6:30 p.m. October 19. The purpose of this public meeting is to discuss the CDBG-MIT program, the relevance of the County’s Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan, and to receive input on the proposed approach for project selection.

A second public meeting will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. November 16 virtually via Zoom to receive public input on the draft Action Plan prior to its submission to HUD. The draft Initial Action Plan will describe the County’s strategy for utilizing limited CDBG-MIT funds to implement strategic hazard mitigation activities to comply with HUD requirements.
To register for either meeting, email your name and phone number to cdbgmit@hawaiicounty.gov. Include in the subject line “Register to Testify.”
