Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Hilo couple, 21 year-old Kade Kekoa Kapika-Overturf and 26 year-old Shayla Kamahele, were each charged with four offenses related to the theft of a motor vehicle from the Hilo Home Depot parking lot on March 29, 2021.
As the Complaints allege, Kapika-Overturf and Kamahele are each charged with Theft in the First Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Unauthorized Control of Propelled Vehicle, and Driving Without a License. Both remain in custody in lieu of $47,000.00 bail. They are scheduled to make their initial appearances on Monday in Hilo District Court. The lead investigator is Detective Scotty Aloy of the Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i County Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hashizaki.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
