  • $12,500,000.00 to finance the costs of design and construction for emergency repairs to Kolekole Stream Bridge on Hawaiʻi Belt Road on Hawaiʻi.

“I’d like to thank Governor Ige for releasing funding to finance much-needed design and construction repairs for the Kolekole Stream Bridge. I understand how impactful ongoing repairs to the Kolekole Bridge has been to the local economy and traffic and I am hopeful that this infusion of monies from the State can help accelerate the repair process and provide necessary resources to ensure the repairs are done properly. I understand the frustrations and challenges the Hāmākua community has faced in recent weeks, and I want to thank everyone in the community for their patience as we navigate this necessary repair project. While this CIP appropriation of $12,500,000 alone is not enough to complete the entirety of the required maintenance and repairs for the Kolekole Bridge, I believe it is a foundational step to move forward at this time.” said Senator Lorraine R. Inouye (District 4 – Hilo, Hāmākua, Kohala, Waimea, Waikōloa, Kona)

“I also want to express my sincere gratitude toward Edwin Sniffen, Deputy Director for Highways for the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation, and HDOT, who continue to work tirelessly to expedite this project.”
