DUI stats July 13-19, 2020

During the week of July 13, 2020, through July 19, 2020, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested twenty-eight (28) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.  Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.  Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 489 DUI arrests compared with 621 during the same period last year a decrease of 21.3 percent.

The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 426 major accidents so far this year compared with 526 during the same period last year, a decrease of 19 percent. 

To date, there were 11 fatal crashes, resulting in 11 fatalities, compared with 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 13 fatalities for the same time last year. This represents a decrease of 15.4 percent for fatal crashes, and 15.4 percent for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
