by Thunda

Through a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Community Development Block Grant – Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funds, the County of Hawai‘i’s Office of Housing and Community Development in partnership with Hope Services Hawai‘i, Inc., is launching an Emergency Rent and Mortgage Assistance Program to provide financial assistance to eligible households whose income has been impacted by Covid-19.

This program will provide a one-time rent or mortgage payment not to exceed $2,000 for eligible households at or below 80% of the area median income who were affected by Covid-19.  Information on the qualifications and requirements of the program is available online at www.hopeserviceshawaii.org/RMAP.  Applications will be accepted online or by phone starting July 1, 2020.

“Our Thank You to the staff of the County’s Office of Housing and Community Development, who have worked on this proposal since March and finally received approval in late May,” said Mayor Harry Kim.  “Mahalo to Hope Services for continuing to be a great partner in helping those in need.”

“The County is pursuing other financial grants, and information about eligibility will be made available when we receive it,” Mayor Kim said.
