Hawaii Island, HI – The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for South Kohala, North Kona, and South Kona districts on the Big Island. The advisory indicates that minor flooding is either imminent or already occurring in these areas.

Residents in the affected districts are strongly urged to take precautions and remain vigilant for potential flooding conditions. A Flood Advisory signals the possibility of rapidly rising water levels in streams, low-lying areas, and roadways.

“Flooding can be life-threatening,” warns the National Weather Service. “Residents in flood-prone areas are asked to remain alert for flooding conditions and take necessary safety measures.”

Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution. Be on the lookout for:

  • Run-off across roadways
  • Ponding of water, which can obscure road hazards
  • Debris on roadways
  • Reduced visibility due to heavy rain

Crucially, drivers and pedestrians should NEVER attempt to cross flowing water. The National Weather Service emphasizes, “Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot; turn around, don’t drown.”

In addition to flood hazards, the advisory also reminds residents of the dangers associated with thunderstorms. “Remember, if lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors,” the statement advises.

Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if conditions change or the advisory is extended. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through reliable news sources. You will be informed should conditions change.
