Has distance learning saved another year of school for Anti-Vaxxer?

Beginning fall 2020, additional immunizations will be required for all students entering childcare or preschool, kindergarten, seventh grade, and post-secondary school, and for students entering school in Hawaiʻi for the first time.

The Hawaii Administrative Rules, Chapter 11-157 require all students to meet immunization and tuberculosis clearance requirements before they attend post-secondary school in the state

What Vaccines Will My Child Need?

Childcare or Preschool Students

  • Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTaP)
  • Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)
  • Hepatitis A (Hep A)
  • Hepatitis B (Hep B)
  • Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR)
  • Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV)
  • Polio (IPV)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)

All Kindergarten Students and  Students in Grades 1 – 12 new to the Hawaiʻi school system

  • Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTaP)
  • Hepatitis A (Hep A)
  • Hepatitis B (Hep B)
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)*
  • Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV)*
  • Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR)
  • Polio (IPV)
  • Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap)*
  • Varicella (chickenpox)

* All students must show evidence of receiving these immunizations prior to attendance in 7th grade or higher.

All Grade 7 Students

  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV)
  • Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap)

Post-Secondary School Students

  • Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR)
  • Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV)**

** First-year students living in on-campus housing only.

Parents whose children are behind on their immunizations are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider for catch-up vaccinations as soon as possible.

Children may be exempt from immunization requirements for medical or religious reasons, if the appropriate documentation is presented to the childcare facility or school. Religious exemption forms may be completed at the childcare facility or school that your child will attend. Medical exemptions must be obtained from your child’s healthcare provider. No other exemptions are allowed by the State.
