Hawaiʻi Island State Highways and Roads Lane Closures Announced for July 12 – July 18

Hilo, Hawaiʻi – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has released the schedule of lane closures for state highways and roads on Hawaiʻi Island for the week of Saturday, July 12, through Friday, July 18, 2025. Motorists are advised that these schedules are subject to change at any time without further notice and are weather permitting.

A map of current lane closures can typically be found on the HDOT website at https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/roadwork/. Drivers should anticipate delays and plan alternative routes when possible.


Detailed Lane Closures by Route:

KANOELEHUA AVENUE (ROUTE 11) — HILO

  • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.:
    • Pocket closure in either direction between mile post 2.8 to 3 (near East Palai Street) for maintaining pocket lane markings.
    • Left pocket closure in the southbound direction between mile post 3.6 to 3.7 (near Hale Manu Drive) for maintaining pocket lane markings.

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11)

  • PAHALA (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 50-52, near Maile Street):
    • Saturday, July 12, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for cutting grass.
  • NAALEHU (Mile Post 68-69.5, near 68 Mile Road and Red Cinder Road):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for cutting grass.
  • HAWAIIAN OCEAN VIEW (Mile Post 70-76, near Easement Road):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for striping work (removal of existing, new striping, centerline, rumble strip, pavement markers).
  • PAPA (Mile Post 84-86, near Old Mamalahoa Highway):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for striping work.
  • PAPA (Mile Post 89-93.5, near Papalani Place):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for striping work.
  • HONAUNAU (Mile Post 83.5-94.5, near Halepiula Road):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Roving lane closure possible in either direction for installation of turn pockets, medians, rumble strips, and raised pavement markers.
  • CAPTAIN COOK (Mile Post 107-109, near Rabbit Hill Road and Koa Road):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for grass cutting and shoulder work.
  • CAPTAIN COOK (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 107-109.5, near Rabbit Hill Road and Greenwell Park):
    • Saturday, July 12, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for grass cutting and shoulder work.

VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11)

  • MOUNTAIN VIEW (Mile Post 17-19, near Lehuanani Street):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for mowing and shoulder work.
  • MOUNTAIN VIEW (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 19-20, near North Glenwood Road):
    • Saturday, July 12, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for mowing and shoulder work.
  • VOLCANO (Mile Post 27.3-30.9, near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Mauna Loa Road):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Roving lane closure possible in either direction for HELCO installing new pole and wire.

HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19)

  • PAPAIKOU (Mile Post 8, near Indian Tree Road):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for bridge maintenance.
  • NINOLE TO OOKALA (Mile Post 17-29, near Moonlight Road):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for grass cutting.
  • HONOKAA (Mile Post 42-44):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for mulching, tree trimming, and shoulder work.
  • HONOKAA (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 43-44):

KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (ROUTE 250)

  • KAPAAU (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 8-9.5, near Foot Path Road):
    • Saturday, July 12, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for tree trimming and shoulder work.
  • KAPAAU (Mile Post 8.5-11, near Kohala Ranch Road):
    • Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for tree trimming and shoulder work.

HAWI ROAD (ROUTE 250)
