Hawaiʻi Island State Highways and Roads Lane Closures Announced for July 26 – August 1

Hilo, Hawaiʻi – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has released the schedule of lane closures for state highways and roads on Hawaiʻi Island for the upcoming week, Saturday, July 26, through Friday, August 1, 2025. Motorists are advised that these schedules may change at any time without further notice and are weather permitting.

Drivers should anticipate delays and plan alternative routes when possible.


Detailed Lane Closures by Route:

KANOELEHUA AVENUE (ROUTE 11) — HILO

  • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.:
    • Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 2.2 to 2.3 (near East Kahaopea Street) for maintenance on pocket lane markings.
  • Monday, July 28 – Thursday, July 31, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.:
    • Single lane closure possible in either direction between mile post 4.1 to 4.4 (near Stainback Highway and Kai Ki Street) for maintenance on pocket lane markings.

MAMALAHOA HIGHWAY (ROUTE 11)

  • PAHALA (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 49-50, near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park):
    • Saturday, July 26, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for cutting grass.
  • PAHALA (Mile Post 50-51):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for cutting grass.
  • HAWAIIAN OCEAN VIEW (Mile Post 70-76, near Easement Road):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for removal of existing striping, new striping, centerline, rumble strip, and pavement markers.
  • PAPA (Mile Post 84-86, near Old Mamalahoa Highway):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for removal of existing striping, new striping, centerline, rumble strip, and pavement markers.
  • PAPA (Mile Post 89-93.5, near Papalani Place):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for removal of existing striping, new striping, centerline, rumble strip, and pavement markers.
  • HONAUNAU (Mile Post 105-106, near Filipino Clubhouse Road and Honaunau School):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for cutting grass and shoulder work.
  • CAPTAIN COOK (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 106-107, near Honaunau School and Rabbit Hill Road):
    • Saturday, July 26, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for cutting grass and shoulder work.

VOLCANO ROAD (ROUTE 11)

  • MOUNTAIN VIEW (Mile Post 14-17, near North Lauko Road):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for cutting grass.
  • MOUNTAIN VIEW (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 17-19, near Lehuanani Street):
    • Saturday, July 26, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for mowing and shoulder work.
  • VOLCANO (Mile Post 28-29, near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Roving lane closure possible in either direction for HELCO to install a new pole and wiring.

HAWAII BELT ROAD (ROUTE 19)

  • PAPAIKOU (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 5-18, near Kahoa Place and Government Main Road):
    • Saturday, July 26, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for cutting grass.
  • PAPAIKOU (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 7.3-7.8, near Kaieie Road and Puu Moi Road):
    • Tuesday, July 29 – Thursday, July 31, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for deck joint repairs on Kalaoa bridge.
  • HAKALAU TO NINOLE (Mile Post 16-18, near Leopolino Road and Government Main Road):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for tree trimming and shoulder work.
  • HAKALAU TO OOKALA (WEEKEND – Mile Post 17-29, near Moonlight Road):
    • Saturday, July 26, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for cutting grass.

    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Shoulder closure in the southbound direction for installation of a street light foundation.

    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for striping.
  • SOUTH KOHALA (Mile Post 12.2-16.4, near Saddle Road):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1, 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for striping.

HAWI ROAD (ROUTE 250)

  • HAWI (WEEKEND WORK – Mile Post 18-19, near Akoni Pule Highway):
    • Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 28, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Single lane closure possible in either direction for tree trimming and shoulder work.
