Hawaiʻi County Road Closures and Traffic Advisories: June 16 – June 20, 2025

HAWAIʻI ISLAND – Motorists on Hawaiʻi Island should prepare for various road closures and potential traffic delays across multiple districts from Monday, June 16, through Friday, June 20, 2025. These advisories are for ongoing maintenance, construction projects, and specialized work. All schedules are weather permitting.

Important Note: Lane closure schedules may change without further notice. Flaggers will be directing traffic at all partial lane closures, and large trucks and personnel will be present on roadways.

Hamakua District

  • Pāpaʻaloa Makai Road/Kaiwilahilahi Bridge:
    • Road Closed 24/7 from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for bridge maintenance. Flaggers will direct traffic.
  • Hala Street & Kahili Street: Partial lane closures as needed from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance, Road Maintenance, and Tree Trimming.
  • Waipiʻo Valley Road: Partial lane closure as needed from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance and Tree Trimming.
  • Old Māmalahoa Highway (north of Kawiki Homestead Road & at Kolekole Beach Park):
    • Bridge Closed 24 hours a day from June 15 to June 21 for Ka’ahakini Bridge & Kolekole Bridge. Detour via Chin Chuck and Kanna Road.
  • Old Māmalahoa Highway (between Pāpa‘aloa Country Store & Cafe/U.S. Post office and Pāpa‘aloa Hongwonji Mission):
    • Bridge Closed 24 hours a day from June 15 to June 21 for Kaiwilahilahi Bridge. Detour via Pāpa‘aloa Avenue or Old Māmalahoa Highway.
  • Kahoa Street:
    • Bridge Closed 24 hours a day from June 15 to June 21 for Honolii Bridge. Detour via marked detour route.

Puna District

  • South Puni Loop / North Puni Loop: Partial lane closures as needed from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance and Road Maintenance.
  • Kahakai Road / Hawaiian Beaches: Partial lane closures as needed from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance and Road Maintenance.
  • Olaʻa Road: Partial lane closures as needed from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance and Road Maintenance.
  • Kahakai Blvd (between Akule St – Welea St): Expect officers directing traffic and minor delays from June 16 to June 20, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., for pavement marking installation on resurfaced roadway.

North Kohala District

  • Kynnersley Road: Partial lane closures as needed from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance and Road Maintenance.

South Kohala District

  • Mud Lane: Partial lane closures as needed from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance and Road Maintenance.
  • Waikōloa Road (Māmalahoa Highway to Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway): No work scheduled from June 15 to June 21 for Rehabilitation Construction Project.

Hilo District

  • Keanakolu / Mana Road: Partial lane closures as needed from June 16 to June 20, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance and Road Maintenance.
  • Pauahi Street Bridge: No work scheduled from June 15 to June 21.
  • Kilauea Ave. & Keawe Street (Ponahawai to Waiānuenue): No work scheduled from June 15 to June 21 for Rehabilitation Construction Project.
  • Lanikaula Street (Kilauea Ave. to Manono Street): No work scheduled from June 15 to June 21 for Rehabilitation Construction Project.

Kona District (North & South)

  • Nāpoopoo Road (Kona): Partial lane closures as needed from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance and Guardrail Installation.
  • Ali`I Drive / Kahalu’u Bay (Kona): Partial lane closures as needed from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Shoulder Maintenance and Guardrail Installation.
  • Māmalahoa Hwy Resurfacing (Palani Rd. to Kamalani St. – Phase I) (N. Kona): Lane shift/closure from June 15 to June 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rainouts have delayed the start of paving.
  • Māmalahoa Hwy Resurfacing (Kalamauka Rd. to Ha’awina St. – Phase III) (N. Kona): Lane shift/closure from June 15 to June 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rainouts have delayed the start of paving.
  • Lako St (between Hualalai Rd & Hwy 11) (N. Kona): Expect officers directing traffic and minor delays from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., to restripe roadway markings. This is weather permitting and dependent on traffic control availability.
  • Queen Liliokulani Sub-Division (Konalani St / Palihilo St) (N. Kona): Expect officers directing traffic and minor delays from June 16 to June 20, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., to restripe roadway markings. This is weather permitting and dependent on traffic control personnel availability.

Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes where possible, drive with caution, and obey all traffic control signs and personnel for their safety and the safety of the work crews.
