Motorists on Moku o Keawe should anticipate traffic delays this week as the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a series of lane closures for maintenance and construction work on state highways. The closures, which are subject to change due to weather conditions and other factors, will affect multiple major routes around the island.

Puna and Kaʻu Districts
- Volcano Road (Route 11): A single lane will be closed on Saturday, August 2, between mile markers 14 and 17 near Mountain View for grass cutting and shoulder work. This same section will see daily closures from Monday to Friday for mulching and shoulder work. A separate roving lane closure is planned between mile markers 28 and 28.5 near Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park from Monday to Friday for HELCO to install new poles and wiring.
- Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11): Weekend work on Saturday, August 2, will close a single lane near Pahala for grass cutting. This is followed by daily shoulder work in the area from Monday to Friday. Drivers in Hawaiian Ocean View, Papa, and Honaunau can expect single lane closures for striping, pavement work, and grass cutting throughout the week.
Hamakua and Hilo Districts
- Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19): Weekend work is scheduled for Saturday, August 2, for grass cutting and tree trimming between Papaikou and Ninole. During the week, bridge maintenance will cause single lane closures at various locations near Papaaloa and Laupahoehoe from Monday to Thursday.
- Puainako Street (Route 2000): A single lane closure is scheduled from Monday to Friday between mile markers 0.5 and 2.2 for striping and the installation of new raised pavement markers.
- Keaau Pahoa Road (Route 130): A shoulder closure is planned in the southbound direction near Pahoa for the installation of a street light foundation from Monday to Friday.
North and South Kohala Districts
- Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190): Striping work will lead to single lane closures near Waimea and in South Kohala from Monday to Friday.
- Hawi Road (Route 250): Weekend work on Saturday, August 2, will close a single lane for grass cutting, tree trimming, and shoulder work.
- Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270): A single lane will be closed from Monday to Friday for tree trimming and shoulder work near Mahukona.
