Hawaiʻi Police Investigate Weapon Incident at Kawaihae Beach

Hawaiʻi Island police are searching for the identity of person(s) responsible for shooting approximately 17 shots from a 9mm pistol at the Kawaihae LST Landing (aka LSD) beach area.     
 
An Allied Security officer reported that on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at approximately 7:48 p.m. an unknown person told security personnel that a group of several people were firing a pistol while at LST beach. Allied Security staff told everyone to leave the area and once the area was clear, they located the 9mm casings at the far end of the beach.
 
Hawai‘i Island police ask anyone who may have information about this incident to contact Officer Robert Mckay Jr. at (808) 887-3080 or email robertmckay@hawaiicounty.gov. Citizens can also call the police department’s non-emergency line at (808) 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000
