Hawai‘i County Fire Department Announces Fireworks Permits Now Available for New Year’s Celebrations

HILO — The Hawai‘i County Fire Department has announced that fireworks permits are now available for purchase in preparation for New Year’s celebrations. Starting today, December 26, permits can be obtained for $25 each, allowing holders to purchase up to 5,000 firecrackers per permit. Multiple permits may be purchased by individuals aged 18 or older.

Permits are nontransferable and non-refundable. Fireworks sales will run through midnight on New Year’s Eve. A permit is not required for purchasing novelties or paperless firecrackers.

Fireworks Use Guidelines:

The use of fireworks is permitted only between 9:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 1:00 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Permits must be visibly displayed at the site of use.
