Hawaii Department of Education releases comprehensive instructional review of Acellus

by Thunda

The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) has released a final report on its instructional review of the Acellus online program.

The report is a comprehensive version of a summary report that was previously released on Oct. 15, and includes the same findings and recommendations. An internal review team recommends the program be discontinued as a primary curriculum resource due to its inconsistency in quality and rigor.

On Oct. 15, the Board of Education voted to direct the Department to phase out use of Acellus in all schools by the end of the 2020-21 school year.

The HIDOE is currently finalizing a transition plan. Superintendent Dr. Christina Kishimoto has said the Department will provide schools with vetted alternatives and that no later than the end of the second quarter, families who want to discontinue using Acellus will be able to transition to another program.
