Hawaii Fire Department Responds to Drop Call for Kayaker in Distress in Waipio Valley

Hawaii Fire Department responded to a dropped 911 call at 11:10 am today from  Muliwai Trail in Waipio Valley. During the response, Dispatch stated the dropped call was for a Kayaker in Distress. Hawaii Fire Department Air support choppers C-2 and C-1 were dispatched as well a 2 engines, one medic, and 4 other assisting units.

Upon arrival, Units found 1 Kayaker on the beach and 1 making itʻs way to shore. C-1 landed on the beach and made contact with bystanders and were informed they got separated and the second kayaker appeared to now paddling towards shore.

Hawaii Fire Department Air Rescue C-2 maintained visual contact of kayaker until person was able to make it to shore safely. Both kayakers sustained no injuries and were able to make it to shore with without Fire Department assistance.
