Hawaii Fire Department Rescues Man from Boiling Pots

Hawaii Fire Department responded today to a call for rescue at Boiling Pots in the Kaumana area of Hilo. Around 11:37 am it was reported a hiker had slipped and fell and sustained an injury. Chopper 1 was dispatched and upon arrival spotted a 20-year-old injured male hiker on the embankment of the river.

3 Fire rescue Specialist we dropped on the riverbank. Placed the injured hiker on a spine board as a precaution and then into the litter for extraction.

Chopper 1 then with the use of a long line and litter safely extracted the injured hiker and transferred him to the EMS personnel. The man was treated and transported by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center ER where he remains in stable condition.

The Hawaii Fire Department would like to remind visitors and residents of the access and hazard warning signs along the Wailuku River.
