Yesterday morning around 9 am a call came into the Pahoa Fire department of structure on fire on Sandalwood Drive in Pahoa.
Upon Arrival by Pahoa Fire Department, They found a 2-story residential structure with 1st floor 20-30% involved in the fire. Hawaii Police Department was also on scene with the resident. The single resident had self-evacuated before the arrival of HFD. Fire Fighters attacked the fire with a defensive from the exterior with an effective fire knockdown.
The fire was brought under control by 9:20 am and smoke was removed from the structure. The structure was searched for fire extension upstairs and downstairs with negative findings and an overhaul was completed by 9:40 am. HELCO disconnected power to the residence and the scene was secured and turned over to Fire inspectors for investigation. The cause of the fire was still under investigation at the time of the media release.
The fire was estimated to cause around $122,500 in damage with around $140,000 of the homes worth being saved.
