During the week of February 15, 2021, through February 21, 2021, Hawai‘i Island police arrested 16 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Six of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 182 DUI arrests compared with 156 during the same period last year, an increase of 16.7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 97 major accidents so far this year compared with 145 during the same period last year, a decrease of 33.1 percent.
To date, there were 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities, compared with 5 fatal crashes, resulting in 5 fatalities for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
