Responding to a noise complaint on Leila Road in the Fern Forest subdivision in Glenwood on Friday, April 2, 2021, at 5:30 p.m., Puna patrol officers observed two men standing near two parked vehicles.
When officers approached the two men, one of them fled the area in one of the vehicles and the other fled into the bushes leaving his parked vehicle. Officers observed a firearm within the vehicle in plain view, as well as ammunition on the ground near the vehicle. While officers waited with the vehicle, the man, later identified as Edwin W. Lively, of Volcano, exited the bushes and was arrested without incident.
Lively was held at the police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section continued investigation. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle yielding a stolen firearm, ammunition, and methamphetamine. After conferral with prosecutors, detectives charged Lively on April 3 with two counts of place to keep a firearm, two counts of ownership/possession prohibited, promotion of a dangerous drug, and first degree theft.
His bail was set at $96,000 and he remains at the police cellblock until his preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for Monday April 5, 2021.
