The Hawaii State Department of Education (HIDOE) today announced a pledge to fund Hawaii public school teachers’ DonorsChoose projects — up to $1,000 per teacher — to help students resume in-person learning this coming school year. Every Hawaii public school teacher qualifies for this offer, while funds last.
Eligibility requirements:
- Teach at a HIDOE school (one project per teacher will be eligible).
- Create a new DonorsChoose project on or after July 26, and submit by Aug. 3.

- Request resources to support students returning to the classroom after a school year impacted by COVID-19.
- In your project essay, be sure to describe how the resources you’re requesting will help your students return to the classroom after a year of pandemic learning.
- Keep your total project goal under $1,000, including taxes, shipping and fees.
- If you’re creating a project for tech resources, be sure to review technology guidelines for Hawaii school districts before shopping.
- Professional development projects are not eligible for this funding opportunity.

DonorsChoose is an education crowdfunding site that helps teachers obtain financial support for classroom projects and resources. Since 2007, Hawaii public school teachers have raised $7.6 million and completed nearly 10,500 projects on DonorsChoose. Over 3,150 local educators have been supported through this program, impacting 282 public and charter schools in Hawaii. Projects funded through the DonorsChoose program vary from books, iPads and field trips to classroom furniture, STEM resources and other tools that support student success.
