The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced a series of lane closures scheduled for various highways across Hawaii Island during the week of May 3rd to May 9th. Motorists are advised to plan their commutes accordingly and expect potential delays. All projects are weather permitting, and schedules are subject to change without notice.
Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11):
Several sections of Mamalahoa Highway will experience single-lane closures for various maintenance activities, including grass cutting and safety improvements. These closures will affect different areas:
- Pahala: Mileposts 53-55, Monday, May 5th – Friday, May 9th, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (grass cutting)
- Naalehu: Mileposts 60-62, Saturday, May 3rd, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (grass cutting and shoulder work)
- Honaunau: Mileposts 97.2-104.7 (near Haleili Road and Filipino Clubhouse Road), Monday, May 5th – Friday, May 9th, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (safety improvements)
- Captain Cook: Mileposts 108-109 (near Government Main Road and Greenwell Park), Monday, May 5th – Friday, May 9th, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (mowing and shoulder work)
- Holualoa: Mileposts 117-118, Saturday, May 3rd, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (mowing); and Monday, May 5th – Friday, May 9th, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (roving lane closure for mowing)
Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19):
The Hawaii Belt Road will also experience lane closures for geotechnical work, grass cutting, tree trimming, and shoulder work.
- Hilo: Mileposts 2.3-2.7 (Haili Street to Kanoa Street), Monday, May 5th – Friday, May 9th, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (geotechnical work)
- Papaikou: Mileposts 5-7 (near Kahoa Place and Hajime Lane), Monday, May 5th – Friday, May 9th, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (grass cutting); and Mileposts 6-8 (near Indian Tree Road), Saturday, May 3rd, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (tree trimming, mowing, and shoulder work)
- Pepekeo: Mileposts 10-11.5 (Kulaimano Road to Overpass Road), Monday, May 5th – Friday, May 9th, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (tree trimming and shoulder work)

- Keaau Pahoa Road (Route 130): Mileposts 1-2.5 (near Opukahaia Street), Saturday, May 3rd, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (grass cutting)
- Pahoa Kalapana Road (Route 130): Mileposts 19-21, Monday, May 5th – Friday, May 9th, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (grass cutting, tree trimming, and shoulder work)
- Mamalahoa Highway (Route 190): Various sections in Waimea and South Kohala for paving and striping (see details in original announcement).
- Daniel K. Inouye Highway/Saddle Road (Route 200): Mileposts 5-6, Saturday, May 3rd, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (shoulder work)
- Kohala Mountain Road (Route 250): Various sections in Kapaau for mowing and tree trimming (see details in original announcement).
- Akoni Pule Highway (Route 270): Various sections in Kawaihae for shoulder work and culvert cleaning (see details in original announcement).
- Puainako Street (Route 2000): Mileposts 0.5-2.2 (near Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street), Monday, May 5th – Friday, May 9th, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (striping and pavement marker installation)
