Hawaiian Electric Announces Lane Closures on Mamalahoa Highway in Kona This Week

Kona, Hawaiʻi – Hawaiian Electric is advising motorists to anticipate intermittent lane closures on Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11) in Kona this week as their crews conduct utility pole replacement work.

On Tuesday, July 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the mauka (mountain) lane of Mamalahoa Highway will be intermittently closed between mile markers 4 and 5.

Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 8am-4pm, the makai (ocean) lane of the highway will experience intermittent closures between mile markers 93.5 and 94.

These closures are necessary to facilitate the replacement of utility poles. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution in these areas, adhere to all traffic control signs and personnel, and consider adjusting travel times if possible.
