Hawaiian Electric Announces Overnight Road Closures in North Kona

North Kona, Hawaiʻi – Hawaiian Electric crews will be replacing utility poles in north Kona, requiring overnight closures of Mamalahoa Highway in Keopu on the evenings of Thursday, August 28, 2025, and Thursday, September 4, 2025.

The first closure will be on Thursday, August 28, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday, August 29. The affected area is Mamalahoa Highway just south of the Lawaia Road intersection.

The second closure will be on Thursday, September 4, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday, September 5. The closure will be on Mamalahoa Highway, just south of the Keolani Road intersection.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and to drive with caution when approaching the work zone. Flagmen will be on-site to provide traffic control. The work is being performed overnight to minimize disruptions to the community.
