Hawaiian Electric Announces Upcoming Utility Work and Lane Closures in Kona

Kona, Hawaiʻi – Hawaiian Electric crews have scheduled utility pole replacement work in Kona next week, which will result in intermittent and overnight lane closures on two separate dates.

On Tuesday, July 29, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the makai (ocean) lane of Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Route 11) will be intermittently closed. This closure will occur near the intersection of Anoʻi Place, between mile markers 109 and 110 in South Kona.

Later next week, Mamalahoa Highway (Route 11), south of Poli Uli Road, will be closed between mile markers 5 and 6. This closure will take place overnight, from 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, to 6:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1.

Motorists are strongly advised to use alternate routes during these times and to drive with caution when approaching the work zones. Flagmen will be onsite to provide traffic control at both locations.

These closures are necessary to allow Hawaiian Electric personnel to safely replace utility poles, contributing to system reliability.
