Hawaiian Electric crews are scheduled to replace several utility poles in South Kona, leading to intermittent road closures from Friday, August 8, to Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Motorists are advised to plan for potential delays and to use alternate routes where possible.
The following closures are scheduled:
- Friday, August 8: Intermittent closure of the makai lane of Hawaiʻi Belt Road near the intersection of ʻAnoʻi Place, between mile markers 109 and 110 in Captain Cook, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Monday, August 11: An overnight closure of Māmalahoa Highway, just south of Pōli ʻUli Road, between mile markers 5 and 6 in Holualoa. The closure will be from 10 p.m. on Monday to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12.
- Wednesday, August 13: Intermittent closure of the makai lane of Māmalahoa Highway, between mile markers 1 and 2 in Holualoa, just south of Nohealani Street, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Flagmen will be on site to provide traffic control. Drivers are urged to use caution when approaching the work zones.
