HILO, Hawaiʻi – The County of Hawaiʻi Department of Parks & Recreation is offering an American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification course at the Kohala Swimming Pool at Kamehameha Park in Kapaʻau. This course provides deep water training and is essential for aspiring lifeguards.
The certification course will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on July 17, 19, 24, and 26, 2025.
To be eligible, participants must be at least 15 years old on or before the final session of the course. All candidates will need to pass two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations, which will be conducted on the first day of classes.
The course fee is $122, payable in exact cash on the first day of classes.

Participants should come prepared for each class with their own CPR masks for adults and infants, a bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, water, and snacks. The Lifeguarding Participant’s manual is also required.
