High Surf Advisory for Big Island West Facing Shores

HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR NORTH AND WEST FACING SHORES OF NIIHAU KAUAI OAHU AND MOLOKAI FOR NORTH FACING SHORES OF MAUI AND FOR WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND…

A large, reinforcing northwest swell will cause surf to increase later today along most north and west facing shores of the islands. Surf may approach the High Surf Warning criteria along north and west facing shores of Kauai County, and possibly Oahu, later today. This elevated surf is expected to persist along most north and west facing shores of the smaller islands from tonight through early Friday.

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THIS EVENING…

* WHAT…Large breaking waves of 6 to 8 feet.

* WHERE…West facing shores of the Big Island.

* WHEN…Through this afternoon.

* IMPACTS…Moderate. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

Beaches: Spencer Beach Park, White Sands Beach Park, Kahaluʻu Beach Park, Hapuna Beach Park
