Ookala, Hawaiʻi – Both lanes of Highway 19, also known as Hawaiʻi Belt Road, are currently closed near the 31.5-mile marker in the vicinity of Ookala. The closure is a result of a brush fire that has caused possible damage to a utility pole in the area.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes as emergency crews respond to the incident and assess the damage. The Hawaiʻi Police Department has not yet provided an estimated time for the road to reopen.

The extent of the utility pole damage and the cause of the brush fire are under investigation. Drivers should expect delays and plan their travel accordingly until further updates are provided regarding the highway’s reopening.
