HILO, Hawaiʻi – The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) has announced that the main runway (8-26) and Taxiway A at Hilo International Airport (ITO) will undergo nightly closures for general maintenance and repairs. The work, which includes pavement repairs and crack sealing, is scheduled to begin tonight, Monday, June 23, 2025, and continue through Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
The closures will occur nightly from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. During these periods, aircraft operations will utilize the alternate runway, Runway 3-21. All work is contingent on favorable weather conditions.
This maintenance is part of HDOT’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the runway and improving takeoff and taxiway operations at ITO. The department has strategically scheduled this work during nighttime hours to minimize disruption to air travelers and airline operations, while also aiming to reduce the overall project duration.
HDOT apologizes for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s understanding, emphasizing that this work is essential to ensure safety for all aircraft operations at Hilo International Airport.
