Hilo Man Aaron Sadami Aki Charged with Numerous Property Crimes in Island Wide Crime Spree

Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 33 year-old Aaron Sadami Aki of Hilo, was charged with nine offenses including Burglary of a Dwelling During an Emergency Period, two counts of Theft in the First Degree, two counts of Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree, Criminal Property Damage in the Fourth Degree, Resisting Order to Stop Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, Attempted Unauthorized Entry Into Motor Vehicle in the First Degree, and Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle.
These charges stem from separate incidents which occurred in Keaukaha, Pepeekeo, Ninole, and Kailua-Kona. Aki has been identified by the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney as a career criminal with three prior felony convictions.
At the time of his arrest, Aki was also wanted for two outstanding $50,000.00 bench warrants related to Big Island Drug Court Violations. Aki remains in custody in lieu of $121,000.00 bail for the property crimes and $100,000.00 bail for his Big Island Drug Court Violations.
He is scheduled to appear for his preliminary hearing ‪on April 6, 2021‬ in Hilo District Court.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
“Today’s charges reflect our Office’s commitment to hold repeat property offenders accountable and to seek enhanced penalties for those who choose to victimize our community during the pandemic,” said Prosecuting Attorney Waltjen.
