A Hilo man has been arrested and charged a 53-year-old for drug and theft offenses, including attempted methamphetamine distribution, as well as outstanding warrants.
When police responded to a report of a theft in progress involving a female and male accomplice in the 110 block of East Puainako Street on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at 4:40 p.m., Hilo patrol officers made contact with Anthony Hatori.
Hatori was subsequently arrested for being an accomplice to theft in the fourth degree and for two outstanding warrants. During the course of their investigation, police conducted a pat down search of Hatori’s person and discovered 5.45 grams of crystal methamphetamine packaged in individual plastic zip packets for distribution, additional drug paraphernalia, and $935 in US currency. The recovered drugs have an estimated street value of $250. The currency was seized for forfeiture.
On Monday evening, July 11, after conferring with the County Prosecutor’s Office, Hatori was charged with:
- one count of promoting a dangerous drug in the first degree
- one count of promoting a dangerous drug in the second degree
- one count of promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree
- one count of drug paraphernalia
- accomplice to theft in the fourth degree
Hatori’s total bail was set at $87,700 and he remains in custody until his initial court appearance on Tuesday, July 12, in Hilo District Court.
