Hilo Man Charged with Agricultural Theft

by Thunda

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Hilo man, 30-year-old Collin Kerrigan, was charged with agricultural theft related to an incident that occurred on September 4th at the Hilo Farmers Market.

As the Complaint alleges, Kerrigan, a repeat offender, who has a 2016 conviction for Burglary in the First Degree, was charged with Theft in the Second Degree, a class C felony offense which carries a maximum penalty of five (5) years in prison. If convicted as charged, Kerrigan faces a mandatory prison term.

Kerrigan is scheduled to make his initial appearance on Tuesday in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $2,000.00 bail. A review of court records indicates that at the time of the alleged offense, Kerrigan was pending felony drug charges for an unrelated matter.

The lead investigator was Officer Lisa Ebesugawa, South Hilo Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Jefferson Malate.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney remains dedicated to the pursuit of justice with integrity and commitment. Anyone having information to assist local law enforcement should call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300 in East Hawai‘i or (808) 329-8181 in West Hawai‘i.
