Hilo Man Charged with Burglary, Theft, and Criminal Property Damage at Two Hilo Businesses

Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Hilo man, 30-year-old Antanacious Nau, was arrested and charged in relation to two March 21, 2022 burglaries at two different Hilo businesses.

As the Complaint alleges, Nau was charged with six (6) offenses including two counts of Burglary in the Second Degree (enter or remain unlawfully in a building with the intent to commit theft), Theft in the Second Degree (exert unauthorized control over tools, valued over $750, with intent to deprive the owner of the tools), Criminal Property Damage in the Second Degree (damage property of another, a fence, and cause over $1,500 damage), Criminal Property Damage in the Third Degree (damage property of another, a door, and cause over $500 damage), and Theft in the Third Degree (exert unauthorized control over drinks, valued over $250, with intent to deprive the owner of the drinks).


Nau is scheduled to appear in Hilo District Court on Thursday. He remains in custody in lieu of $42,000.00 bail.


The investigation was handled by Officers Victor McLellan, Lisa Ebesugawa, Chyann Gabriel, South Hilo Patrol, Detective John Balberde, Area I Criminal Investigation Section and Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Heipua Ah Loy.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
