Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced today that a Hilo man, 45-year-old Isaac Pauline, was charged with negligent injury and operating a stolen vehicle in relation to a traffic collision incident that occurred in Mountain View on August 29th.

As the Complaint alleges, Pauline was charged with Negligent Injury in the First Degree, which is causing serious bodily injury to another person by operating a vehicle in a negligent manner, and Unauthorized Control of a Propelled Vehicle in the First Degree.

Pauline, who has eight prior felony convictions, is scheduled to make his initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. He remains in custody in lieu of $20,000.00 bail. Check back later this afternoon for the court minutes update.

Update: Today at Paulines Arraignment and Plea hearing. An oral motion by Paulineʻs attorney Stanton Oshiro was made for supervised release or a bail reduction. Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Soong made an objection for the State. Judge M. Kanani Laubach denied the motion stating JDPC previously filed and signed and probable cause found for further detention of Pauline. Bail remains at $20,000.00. Pauline was ordered to appear for Preliminary Hearing on September 3, 2021, at 2:00 PM in Puna courtroom 2C.

The lead investigators were Officer Trenton Aurello, Puna Patrol, and Detective Casey Cabral, Area I Criminal Investigation Section, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Herbert Mukai.

The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
