
Hilo, HI – Ivan Steve Kong, 46, of Hilo, was arrested on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, on Kilauea Avenue for an outstanding warrant issued by the Hawaii Paroling Authority for violation of parole terms and conditions, according to the Hawai‘i Island Police Department.
Detectives with the Area I Criminal Investigation Section Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), acting on a tip, located Kong in the backseat of a parked vehicle on the 1400 block of Kilauea Avenue at approximately 1:30 p.m. The arrest was made without incident.
Prior to his capture, Kong was considered armed and dangerous and was also under investigation for recent criminal incidents in Hilo and Puna. Video of the arrest has been widely circulated on social media.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into Kong’s alleged involvement in other criminal activity.
