Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that 24-year-old Temaura’i Border of Hilo was sentenced to a ten (10) year prison term in relation to sexual assault offenses that occurred between May and August of 2021.
On February 24, 2022, Border pleaded “No Contest” to four (4) counts of Sexual Assault in the Second Degree, and one count each of Attempted Sexual Assault in the Second Degree and Sexual Assault in the Third Degree. Sexual Assault in the Second Degree and Attempted Sexual Assault in the Second Degree are both class B felony offenses that carry a maximum penalty of ten (10) years in prison.
The lead investigator was Detective Gavin Kagimoto, Hawai’i County Police Department, Juvenile Aid Section. The case was prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Heipua Ah Loy.
“It is my hope that today’s sentencing sends a powerful message to those who betray family trust and prey upon the vulnerable, that they too will be held accountable for their actions,” said Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen. “Our Office will continue to prioritize the investigation and prosecution of crimes that threaten the safety of our Keiki.”
