Hilo Woman Charged with Burglary

by Thunda
Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Hilo woman, 44 year-old Jerrylene Kanakanui was charged in relation to a February 11th incident at an Alu Street residence.
As the Complaint alleges, Kanakanui was charged with Burglary in the First Degree (enter or remain in a dwelling with the intent to commit theft).
Review of court records indicate that at the time of the alleged offense, Kanakanui was pending two unrelated burglary charges, including a Kona burglary alleged to have occurred on February 7th, where she was later granted supervised release over Prosecutors’ objections.
Kanakanui is scheduled to make her initial appearance today in Hilo District Court. She remains in custody in lieu of $25,000.00 bail.
The case was handled by Officers Joshua Rodby-Tomas and Gyasi Williams, South Hilo Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hashizaki.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney remains dedicated to the pursuit of justice with integrity and commitment. Anyone having information to assist local law enforcement should call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300.
