The County of Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation announces the reopening of Honoka‘a Swimming Pool beginning Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

“In May of 2019, the pool was closed while our Maintenance Division’s technical crews completed an extensive renovation of the pool’s administration office, restrooms, changing rooms, and showers,” said Maurice Messina, Director of Parks and Recreation. “There was also significant additional work required in the pump room, and I want to send my deepest appreciation to the Friends of Honoka‘a Pool. They were instrumental to this reopening through their determined organizational and planning efforts, significant fundraising, and construction efforts. This is a perfect example of how our government and a dedicated community can work in partnership to benefit everyone. We don’t know when this facility would have reopened without their support.”

Initially, Honoka‘a Pool will operate on a limited schedule and be open for recreational, and lap swimming uses. Individuals may utilize the pool in 45-minute blocks that begin on the following days and times:

Sundays: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m.
The department will look to expand hours and modify operations at the pool in the upcoming
months. However, the ability to implement such changes is mainly dependent on staff
availability and the number of users served at the pool during this initial period.
