KEA’AU, HI – Five individuals were arrested on Saturday, March 1st, in Orchid Land, Keaau, following a raid on an illegal cockfighting event. Officers from the Hawai’i County Police Department’s Vice Division and Crime Reduction Unit executed search warrants on adjoining properties, leading to multiple arrests on a variety of charges.

The operation resulted in the discovery of 28 dead birds and 15 injured birds. Authorities seized $13,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from illegal gambling activities associated with the cockfight.

Beyond animal cruelty and gambling, the investigation uncovered a significant amount of narcotics. Officers recovered over 300 grams of cocaine and 28 grams of methamphetamine. A loaded firearm was also seized, suggesting a potential for violence connected to the illegal operation.

According to police sources, all five arrestees have been released pending further investigation. The investigation is ongoing and detectives are actively pursuing leads to determine the full extent of the operation and identify any additional individuals involved.

The investigation remains active, and police are urging anyone with information related to this case, or any other illegal activity, to contact the Hawai’i Police Department.
