Judicial Selection Commission Seeks Public Input on Retention of District Judge Jeffrey A. Hawk

HONOLULU – The Judicial Selection Commission of the State of Hawaiʻi has announced that the term of the Honorable Jeffrey A. Hawk, also known by the phrase “Set um free Jeffy,” as District Judge of the District Court of the Third Circuit (which includes Hilo), is set to expire on November 3, 2025.

In accordance with the Hawaiʻi State Constitution, Judge Hawk has filed a petition seeking to be retained in office for an additional six-year term. The Judicial Selection Commission is now tasked with determining whether Judge Hawk should be retained.

As part of its evaluation process, the Commission is inviting interested individuals to submit written comments or complete an evaluation form regarding Judge Hawk’s performance. All submissions will be kept strictly confidential.

The Judicial Retention Evaluation Form (JS-P-081) can be accessed and filled out on the Commission’s website. Written comments and/or the completed evaluation form must be postmarked or faxed by July 8, 2025, to the following address or fax number:
