Today, Prosecuting Attorney Kelden Waltjen announced that a Kapaau man, 36 year-old Nicholaus Rasmussen was charged in relation to a November 27th domestic incident involving his mother.
As the Complaint alleges, Rasmussen was charged with six (6) offenses including two counts of Felony Abuse of a Family or Household Member (causing bodily injury by impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood by blocking the nose and mouth) and a single count each of Assault in the Second Degree, Theft in the Third Degree, Terroristic Threatening in the Second Degree and Interference with Reporting an Emergency or Crime (preventing a victim or witness to a criminal act from calling a 911 emergency telephone system, obtaining medical assistance, or making a report to a law enforcement officer).
Review of court records indicate that Rasmussen was on felony probation for Criminal Property Damage in the First Degree and Bail Jumping in the First Degree at the time of the alleged offenses.
Rasmussen made his initial appearance today in Kona District Court. Judge Kimberly Taniyama denied Rasmussen’s request for supervised release, set bail at $24,000.00, and ordered him to appear for his preliminary hearing on December 1st at 3 pm in Kona District Court.
The investigation was handled by Officer Dayn Suguitan, North Kohala Patrol, Hawai‘i Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Nicole Bowman and Kate Perazich.
The charges are merely allegations, and the Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
